Certina - watches with history
The Certina brand was established in 1888, when two brothers - Adolf and Alfred Kurth - founded their company in the small Swiss town of Grenchen. Initially, the brothers only produced high-quality movements and components, but soon their business expanded to the production of complete watches. The precision of workmanship and attention to detail were quickly appreciated, and their watches received prestigious awards at the fair in Milan in 1906 (especially the women's watch - this model was called Grana), in Brussels in 1910 and in Bern in 1914. Since then, the brand constantly strived to improve its products. The result of this work was the first men's watch with a mechanical mode, which was created in 1936. Two years later, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary, and the brand adopted the well-known name Certina (certus Latin: convinced, sure).
Certina watches - the spirit of innovation
In 1948, the company opened its first foreign representative office in Germany, which marked the beginning of its international career. A breakthrough was also presented in 1959 with the Double Security solution (abbreviated as DS), which is the trademark of the Swiss manufacturer's watches. This system allows you to protect Certina watches against external factors. Its composition includes, among others: reinforced case, sapphire watch glass, special glass seals, case back and crown. All together, Certina watches are legendary for durability, even in extreme conditions. It was the DS system that allowed the brand to stay ahead of the competition.
Certina watches in the world of sports
Due to their water resistance and high shock resistance, Certina watches have been associated with sports for many years. The brand actively supported the successes of such famous athletes as: Muhammad Ali, Mike Doohan, Alex Crivillé, Colin McRae, Petter Solberg, Sete Gibernau and Timo Glock. From 2001 to 2007, Certina men's watches were also worn by Swiss motorcyclist and World Champion Thomas Lüthi. The brand also entered the world of Formula 1 racing, becoming the official partner of the Sauber Petronas team. In 2006, Robert Kubica became its ambassador, to whom the limited edition of the DS Action Chrono watch was dedicated. Since 2011, the brand ambassador has been the most successful biathlete in history - Norwegian Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
