The history of RADO began in 1917 in the small town of Lengnau in Switzerland, when the brothers Fritz, Ernest and Werner Schulp decided to open the first mechanism factory watches. 40 years later, in 1957, Rado Uhren AG was founded, which introduced the first collection of watches under the name RADO. Thus began the successful history of Rado watches.Exactly five years later, with the oval, scratch-resistant 'DiaStar' watch, the foundation for the company's unique success story was laid. The whole story started when Rado's then chief designer, Marc Lederrey, came up with a completely new idea. It annoyed him that gold and steel watches were beautiful at first, but often, even after a few days of use, they developed scratches and had to be constantly polished. At that time, carbide sinters made of tungsten carbide and titanium were the only materials known to have extremely high strength and were often used to make tools and specialized modern devices. "It would be a real achievement to make a watch out of this material," Lederrey suggested, and Dr. Paul Lüthi, then head of Rado, approved the idea. The result: DiaStar, the world's first scratch-resistant watch!

Today, people around the world associate the Rado name with watches of unparalleled design and beautiful, unchanging materials. "Rado's success is based on the company's philosophy: pioneering spirit, continuity and focusing on people. This means courage in setting new paths, as well as the desire to be different from everyone else - and consequently, faithfulness to this difference and determination in pursuit of the chosen goal." These words, spoken by Dr. Paul Lüthia, are always relevant to the company: "We don't want to produce ordinary watches that cater to common tastes. Our Rado watches should have the potential to become classics due to their individualized form and scratch-resistant materials," says Rado CEO Roland Streule, "or in other words, watches that are beautiful and will remain beautiful. Watches made of scratch-resistant materials with a recognizable design.”

The raw material for Rado's high-tech ceramics is ultra-fine zirconium oxide or titanium carbide powder, which is pressed in a mold and then sintered. High-tech ceramics obtain their characteristic luster by polishing with diamond powder.

Rado watches are undoubtedly prestige. They arouse respect not only among enthusiasts, but also among the best watchmakers. They are worn by people who know what they want from life. People who do not like to experiment with quality because they know that the highest quality is already inscribed in the history of Rado watches.
